This Artist Makes Creepy Paintings Of Your Beloved Childhood TV Characters
"OMG my childhood is ruined!"
-You, after seeing these paintings
Dan LuVisi, who goes by the username DanLuVisiArt on DeviantArt, makes some incredible - albeit extremely creepy - paintings of some of your favorite Disney characters.
Like this painting of Pluto, which LuVisi calls "PLUTO - RED MEAT -" for instance. What the fuck is going on? It's so unsettling, yet so complex and well-painted that I could look at it for hours. I get the creepy feeling this has been lurking beneath the surface of Disney characters the whole time.
In a series called "THE FAB FIVE," which is part of the larger "Popped Culture" series, LuVisi depicts some of the most classic and beloved Disney characters in a similar manner.
Like "Minnie" for instance, which is like something out of a twisted, terrifying horror version of Disney.
Well, Donald Duck is no longer cute to me.
The work is incredible, but I won't ever be able to look at Disney the same.
This one's called "The Goof," and it makes me want to hide.
The overall drippy nature of "The Goof" - who is obviously a freakshow takeoff on Goofy - just makes me feel dirty.
And let's not forget Mickey, or the "The Mouse," to round out "THE FAB FIVE" series.
"Lifeless eyes, black eyes, like a doll's eyes..."
But in the larger "Popped Culture" series, LuVisi branches out from just Disney characters.
In this painting, LuVisi tackles "The Simpsons." LuVisi is quite fond of taking characters from cartoons, comics or various children's shows and placing them in extreme adult situations. He provides a new backstory for the most beloved characters from your childhood, often painting them with dark noir moods and severely broken psyches.
LuVisi is also a huge fan of repurposing "Sesame Street" characters.
LuVisi is particularly fond of Bert and Ernie, about whom LuVisi wrote an extensive, thrilling story. Scenes like these are planned to comprise a book, forthcoming in the next few years - LuVisi wrapped up a kickstarter to fund the project in December 2015.
Basically, none of your childhood heroes are safe. Not even the innocent "Winnie the Pooh" characters.
And I don't mind that at all. The art is well done and massively entertaining, and I cant wait for the book. You can check out more of Dan LuVisi's art on his website and DeviantArt page.
