In a world of pain, it's acts like these and people like Safyre Terry who give us all hope.
Two years ago, Safyre Terry's family died in a horrific arson attack on their house.
She was the only one to survive, but she also sustained severe third degree burns in the process, along with losing her right hand.
This Christmas, she had just one wish: to receive as many Christmas cards from as many people as possible.
When Safyre's paternal aunt, Liz Dolder, bought her a metal tree to hang cards from, Safyre immediately wanted to fill it up with Christmas cards.
Not wanting to let her down, her aunt posted a plea on Facebook for her friends to consider sending Safyre a Christmas card. Little did she know that so many people would touched by her story.
In only a few weeks time, Safyre had received thousands upon thousands of cards from people all over the world!
A local Fox reporter stated that Safyre had received over 185,000 cards and more than 4,000 packages in ONE delivery.
Suffice it to say, the UPS guy had to have been pretty confused.
There were so many cards and gifts, Safyre and her Aunt Liz had to recruit neighbors and friends to help sort through them all.
“Had to call for backup,” Dolder wrote on Facebook. “People coming together to help Safyre open her cards and gifts. We had bikers, family friends, girl scouts, correction officers.”
She's practically a celebrity at her local post office. If anyone didn't know her beforehand, they do now.
And one of the cards she received was more like a small house than a Christmas card.
Along with the thousands of cards, Safyre also received thousands of heartfelt gifts.
One young boy from Hong Kong even gave her his favorite teddy bear, ending his card by saying, "let's be friends."
But as the kindhearted angel she is, Safyre couldn't bear to keep the boy's best friend. Her aunt, Liz Dolder, said she wanted to send it back to him, along with “a friend so he is not so lonely on the trip back home.”
If you have yet to bust out the Kleenexes, something may be wrong with you.
Understandably, Safyre has been completely overwhelmed by the amount of thoughtful, unique gifts and cards people have showered her with.
And it serves as a touching reminder everyone of how much good - and how many good people there are in the world, in a time where everyone's faith in humanity is being constantly tested.
And top it all off, she was even surprised with a trip to Disney World by "Baking Memories 4 Kids."
“I really think I am dehydrated from crying so much,” Dolder wrote on Facebook. “This is absolutely amazing, it takes my breath away.”
If we're being honest, it takes ours away too. And to Safyre and everyone who wrote to her or gave her a gift, bravo and well done - you've inspired us all. Merry Christmas everyone!
