Kesha & Zedd Drop 'True Colors,' And Dr. Luke Has Something To Say About It
It's Kesha's first single in three years.
Hot off the heels of their Coachella performance, Kesha and Zedd released their collaboration "True Colors"—and it's just the powerful song needed to kick off the singer's comeback. After a judge ruled Kesha's locked into her Sony contract following a highly-publicized legal battle with producer Dr. Luke, who she claimed sexually and emotionally abused her for ten years, tons of celebrities poured out their support and offered to produce music for her—Zedd being one of them.
While "True Colors" is Kesha's first single in three years, the song is actually a cover of Zedd's 2015 song of the same name. Kesha, however, makes it more of a personal ballad by changing "we" to "my" and "I"—which makes it totally seem like a much-needed song of revenge against Dr. Luke. Aka, it's INCREDIBLE.
IT'S HEREEEE: Kesha's comeback song, produced by Zedd, dropped on April 29, so have a good listen.
"True Colors" is a very fitting song choice, given all the drama with Dr. Luke, who denied Kesha's allegations of rape. The lyrics state:
"All my life, one page at a time, I'll show you my, my true colors, No, no, no, no, I won't apologize for the fire in my eyes. Let me show you my, my true colors. It ain't your rainbow."
Zedd was one of many music producers and celebrities who stood up for Kesha throughout the messy Dr. Luke trial.
He publicly spoke out on Twitter, along with producers Jack Antonoff and Calvin Harris, and offered to produce music for her.
Kesha teased her collaboration with Zedd on Instagram, calling him a "fucking beautiful person with a heart of gold." (Awwwww.)
"it's a miracle when someone gives you a chance at finding your voice again with no reason other than that he is a fucking beautiful person with a heart of gold @zedd #truecolors," she wrote.
Zedd, being the angel he is, clarified to Dr. Luke about 'permission' to release the song, aaand Dr. Luke had this salty response:
Anyway, glad to have you back, queen!
