We all make mistakes. We're only human! And it's easy to misjudge something you read, especially on the Internet. No one denies this.
But some people will believe things so outrageous, proving themselves SO dumb, that you have to wonder how they even get out of bed in the morning.
And with this, I give you—Stephen Spielberg: Dinosaur Killer.
The madness started with this photo. This was posted by humor writer Jay Branscomb, who added the caption "Disgraceful photo of recreational hunter happily posing next to a triceratops he just slaughtered. Please share so the world can name and shame this despicable man."
For those keeping score, this is very clearly a photo of Stephen Spielberg with a PROP from his hit film franchise Jurassic Park.
The photo was posted shortly after the online fiasco surrounding Kendall Jones, a Texas Cheerleader who posted several photos of herself hunting endangered animals and inspired a huge amount of media outrage.
...The thing is, though. dinosaurs aren't endangered. They are SUPER extinct. Which is why the slew of enraged comments over Spielberg the dinosaur killer seemed unprecedented.
People really seemed to be bothered most by the special treatment that Spielberg was getting. Because NO ONE should be allowed to kill dinosaurs and get away with it.
Luckily, no one can. Because they're extinct.
A few tried to be the voice of reason in this incredibly ridiculous debate, but there's not a lot of room for reason in a group of people who believe that Stephen Spielberg is ruthlessly murdering dinosaurs.
As any responsible humor writer would, Branscomb capitalized on the situation and pretty quickly followed up with this photo, captioned: "Folks, we need your help identifying the vicious shark-killer shown posing with his illegal prey. Sharks are essential to the ecosystem and their waters are protected off the coast of California. If you have any knowledge of this fiend’s identity or whereabouts, please contact authorities immediately."
And the memes just came rolling in.
By the end this absolute Internet catastrophe, things started getting pretty confusing.
