This Romantic Graphic Novel Perfectly Captures A Real Relationship

Philippa Rice, a popular illustrator and webcomic artist, is the author of the romantic graphic novel Soppy. The graphic novel is mostly autobiographical and tells the story of Rice's relationship with her boyfriend. But what makes Soppy unique is that it shows romance and true love through the mundane, everyday moments of the couple's relationship rather than "big" moments or gestures of romance. It's real life love, rather than the Hollywood rom-com stuff we're so used to.
"Soppy": not quite "sappy," but very heartwarming in a surprisingly subtle way.
"Soppy" shows how true love really works.
Rather than focusing on big gestures of romance like in a typical romantic comedy movie or a romance novel, Soppy finds love in the small moments.
For instance, even the most mundane activities, like brushing your teeth, can be wonderful when done with someone you love...
Or how boiling water for tea can be a fun team effort when undertaken together.
Soppy shows how the smallest gestures of love are often the most meaningful.
And how the mere presence of your partner–even if you're doing separate activities–is a great feeling.
The drawings are all excellent and adorable, and Soppy is a necessary piece of art to remind us that love isn't all about the big stuff–it's about how we treat each other on a daily basis.
