This Photographer's Latest Project Is To Point Out Why People On Instagram Are Phonies

Despite what you may think, more often than not, you're not seeing the whole picture.
Thai photographer Chompoo Baritone is out to deliver a message regarding Instagram users: what you see, isn't normally what's really going on.
At least, not completely...
The social commentary project was spurred on by Baritone's realization that everyone - not just ordinary people - give inaccurate depictions of their lives on Instagram.
And that, to a great extent, almost all of us "crop" and "filter" our lives to make them appear more glamorous than they really are.
Because when it comes to social media, especially Instagram, there's a natural urge to make the mundane seem marvelous.
Perhaps the largest reason for this is because exposure to media, particularly the celebrity world, is at an all-time high.
The growth of social sharing has enabled windows into the lives of more than just the famous though. The affluent and wealthy, the world travelers, the entrepreneurs - they too now have an immediately accessible platform to share moments from their eventful, lavish lives. Naturally, many of us feel compelled to "keep up" if we want to be given the same respect.
It's this desire for public admiration and envy - for acceptance - that ultimately serves as the driving force behind the way many of us share pictures.
The challenge this series of Baritone's presents is simple. If true acceptance and admiration is what we crave, the only way to go about it is through authenticity. Not by trying to be someone else.
Because in the end, it's far more rewarding to be admired by a few for presenting you true, messy self, than to be admired by many for successfully emulating someone else. And that's a feeling no amount of likes can replace.
