After Dr. Luke Cancels Kesha Performance, Lady Gaga Rushes To Her Defense
We want her voice back.
Ever since a New York judge ruled against permitting Kesha to get out of her contract with Sony and Dr. Luke, the singer has taken matters into her own hands. Luckily, she's had support from tons of musicians, including Zedd. The producer featured her on a remake of his song, "True Colors," which became a massive hit again.
Following the release of the song, Kesha has been fighting to get her voice back. The "Tik Tok" singer was slated to perform a Bob Dylan tribute at the Billboard Music Awards on May 22, but unfortunately, Dr. Luke reportedly axed the entire performance out of fear she'd use it to make a "statement" about their ongoing legal strife. Ugh.
You know who's also frustrated that Kesha isn't allowed to perform at the awards show? Lady Gaga. The "Born This Way" singer has been one of Kesha's biggest supporters throughout her legal battle, and she pretty much just shut down Dr. Luke with literally the best comparison ever.
UPDATE: Dr. Luke has reportedly given Kesha the green light to perform at the awards show.
Just days before she was slated to perform at BBMA, Kesha told her fans that Dr. Luke canceled her performance.
Lady Gaga stood up for Kesha after the news broke and said pretty much what we were all thinking.
Back in February, Lady Gaga urged Sony to drop Dr. Luke.
Let's pause on that Disney comparison, though—it's pretty spot on.
In fact, some fans have even made this reference before.
Fans have been disappointed that Dr. Luke is essentially keeping Kesha under his wing so she can't release any new music. We've all been deprived of a new Kesha pop track for way too long now.
Kesha's mom, Pebe Sebert, was understandably outraged at the cancellation.

So, Kesha might not be allowed to perform at the awards show anymore, but her friend Ben Folds invited her to sing Bob Dylan's "It Ain't Me Babe" at his concert on May 18. The piano cover with Kesha's powerful vocals will actually bring tears to your eyes.
You hear that, Dr. Luke? Kesha—and her supporters—will find a way to make her beautiful voice heard again.
